Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant

Works in both the Inpatient and the Outpatient settings. Assists the inpatient attending physician by pre-rounding on Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) patients. Participates in BMT daily attending rounds and helps implement medical care of assigned patients. Assists in enrollment to and implementation of care on clinical trials and tissue bio repository collections, performs bone marrow biopsies and other minor procedures as directed. Also works with inpatient PharmD and nurse manager on implementation of changes in guidelines for medication administration. When not on Inpatient service, provides patient care in the Outpatient BMT or Hematological Malignancies clinics. May be required to work rotating weekends to cover the HCC Infusion Suite. Expected to take nurse coordinator calls for BMT outpatient patients on a rotating schedule.
NP/PA would work at the Hollings Cancer Center. MUSC’s Hollings Cancer Center is an NCI-designated Cancer Center and offers outstanding research opportunities in many areas, including immunology and drug discovery. The Hematological Malignancies team is the center’s leader in clinical trials accrual. The BMT Program is fully FACT-accredited and performs over 130 transplants per year. In a recent issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education, MUSC was recognized as one of the top 10 institutions with the “biggest gains in federal funds for research and development in science and engineering, adjusted for inflation, 1999-2009”.
Education, training, experience:
Positions in this classification require licensure as a Registered Nurse, a Master's degree and must hold official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner from the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Positions may be licensed to practice in the extended role and authorized for prescriptive authority. Requires certification in Basic Life Support.
A high school diploma and two years responsible and progressive health care experience and completion of a recognized physician's assistant's program. A bachelor's degree in a health care occupation may be substituted for two years of the required health care experience. Certification by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners.
Additional training with hematology/oncology experience is preferred but not required.
